Is the Primal Hunt Slot Worth the Money?

What Is Primal Hunt 

The Primal Hunt slot is a Stone Age, prehistoric-themed game from a popular casino developer, Betsoft. It uses a 5×4 grid, slightly larger than most slots, and has 80 fixed paylines. 

This slot uses 11 normal symbols and two bonus symbols: a wild and a scatter. It has a house edge of 3.90%, slightly better than the average slot game. 

Also, Primal Hunt pays left-to-right, and only the highest win on a given line pays. Scatters are the highest-paying symbols and also trigger a bonus round. 

Bonus Features in Primal Hunt

The Primal Hunt Betsoft slot has two main bonus features: wilds and scatters. 

Wilds are represented by the symbol that says wild and can replace any symbol other than scatters. Standard wilds only appear in the base game. 

Scatters, which are the Hunting Cave Lion symbol, also appear in the base game. If three or more of these symbols land on the same spin, you will trigger free spins. Standard wilds do not appear during free spins.

3 Billion B.C., which was also made by Betsoft, is a successor to Primal Hunt in many ways. So, it is not surprising that the newer version has a better RTP, more bonus features, and a much higher hit rate (29.21%). 

Primal Hunt compares more favorably to Hot Rocket 5x 3x 2x and Genesis Island. It has the same or better expected RTP and similar bonus features, such as multipliers. Primal Hunt is also widely available, giving it an edge over Hot Rocket 5x 3x 2x, which currently has limited availability. 

What Actually Happened With Our $100

I used a $100 bankroll to test a real-money version of Primal Hunt at Bovada. The game allows wagers as low as $0.10 per spin, but I decided to bet $0.50 each spin and cap my test at 200 total spins. 

The game has an auto spin feature, but it only allows up to 100 spins at a time. Here is how my session played out, using the auto spin option twice.

My first 100 spins played out a lot better than the second set. I lost $5.60 on my first half of the test, but the $44.40 I “won” was at least close to the reported RTP. 

To hit a 96.10% return, I would have needed to win back $48.05 on my $50 stake over 100 spins. My two biggest single-spin wins, $8.40 and $7.20, both occurred in my first 100 spins. 

The second half of my experiment was a disaster. I won 15 spins, one less than the first half, but my profit margin dipped dramatically. My 15 wins only won $19.50, resulting in a $30.50 loss overall on my final 100 spins. 

In total, my 31 winning spins created $63.90 in wins on a $100 total stake, leading to a $36.10 loss. 

One of the issues with my session was that I did not trigger the free spins round at any point in my 200 spins. If I had triggered the bonus round and been able to take advantage of the wilds with multipliers, I may have been able to make a profit.

On the bright side, I did technically exceed the projected hit rate of Primal Hunt in both halves. I had a 15% or higher hit rate in both halves, just above the listed 14.33% hit rate for the game. 

The Free Spins Round Explained

Like many modern games, the Primal Hunt free spins feature is a key part of making a profit on this slot. To activate the round, you need three or more scatters to land on the same spin in the base game. 

Wilds are also upgraded during the feature, gaining a 2x or 3x multiplier. These multipliers can be multiplied together, for a maximum multiplier of 27x. 

What This Means 

The free spins round in Primal Hunt can be very helpful for players trying to overcome the game’s low hit rate and make a profit. However, it is difficult to trigger in the base game. There is also no Buy Feature, making it even tougher to access the free spins round and make a profit.
