Canelo vs. Crawford Odds

Canelo opened as a -230 favorite over Crawford (+175). The super middleweight champion is still favored in the final week of build-up, but Canelo’s odds have faded slightly to -175. Crawford’s odds, on the other hand, have shortened to +145 at Bovada.

The change in Canelo’s odds represents a shift in implied win probability from 69.7% to 63.64%.

Canelo is 63-2-2 heading into this weekend’s fight. Crawford, for comparison, is 41-0 but is stepping up in weight to battle Canelo this weekend. 

The fight is for Canelo’s undisputed Super-Middleweight title and will be contested at 168 pounds over 12 rounds. It is taking place in Las Vegas, and the Nevada State Athletic Commission approved Steve Weisfeld, Max DeLuca, and Tim Cheatham as the judges for this fight. 

Canelo Alvarez (-175)

Alvarez has been one of the best fighters of his generation, winning 62 of his 66 professional fights, including 39 victories by knockout. He has only lost twice in his career: once to Floyd Mayweather and once to Dmitry Bivol. Alvarez also has two draws in his professional career.

Alvarez is currently the WBO World, WBC World, WBA World(super), and The Ring Super Middleweight champion. He will attempt to defend the first three against Crawford in this fight.

The weight limit for this showdown with Crawford is set at 164 pounds, which is good news for Alvarez. Canelo has never lost a fight at Super Middleweight. His loss to Floyd was at 154 pounds, and Bivol beat Canelo at 175 pounds.

Being used to the heavier weight class is not Alvarez’s only advantage in this fight. Since the beginning of 2023, Crawford has only fought twice, while Canelo has already fought four times during that span.

Terence Crawford (+145)

The other half of this super-fight is the undefeated Terence Crawford (41-0). Crawford has earned 31 of his career wins by knockout. He has also earned 10 major world titles in his career, ranging from the WBO lightweight championship to the WBA light middleweight championship.

Despite competing at as light as 135 pounds, Crawford is not significantly smaller than Alvarez. Both boxers are listed at 5’8, and Crawford has a 3.5-inch reach advantage over the favorite.

Using his reach advantage will be key to Crawford’s ability to upset Canelo. However, Alvarez has overcome a reach disadvantage before, so Crawford will have his work cut out for him.

Crawford’s lack of activity in recent years could be a blessing or a curse. On the one hand, he will be well-rested for this super fight. However, being the less active fighter could also make him rusty compared to Canelo.

Currently, the over is a heavy favorite at -450 odds, while the under is listed at +300.

The over being favored is not surprising. In their 108 combined career fights, Canelo and Crawford have never been stopped inside the distance.

On the other hand, the argument for a shorter fight is two-fold. First and foremost, Crawford and Canelo have 70 knockouts in their careers. Secondly, both fighters are older, so it will be tougher to overcome their exhaustion late in the fight.

If either fighter tires in the final rounds, their opponent will take advantage and knock them out.

As mentioned above, I think Crawford will win by decision. So, with that in mind, I am sticking with the over at -450 for this total rounds prop bet.

Will the Fight Go the Distance?

You should only take the “no” option if you believe the fight will end in the 11th or 12th rounds. It would fall short of going the distance, but still cover the over on 10.5 rounds. It is a small window, but the reward is a much bigger payout.

This prop is also a better option if you think the fight will go to a decision. The over on 10.5 rounds only offers -450 odds. However, the “yes” option in this prop market is listed at -350.

For reference, a $100 bet on over 10.5 rounds pays $22.22. However, that same $100 could earn you a $28.57 payout if you bet it on the fight going the distance instead.

When Will the Fight End?

• Rounds 1-6 (+1000)
• Rounds 7-12 (+400)

The options for betting on the fight going the distance are limited. However, if you think Canelo vs. Crawford will end inside of 12 rounds, then there are tons of other props to choose from.

For instance, Bovada has multiple options for betting on the specific round the fight ends in. Canelo vs. Crawford must end within the 12-round limit for these markets to pay.
