Renegade has the shortest odds to win the 2026 Kentucky Derby, falling between +300 and +375 depending on where you bet. If he wins, he will likely be the favorite at the Belmont Stakes and the Preakness Stakes.
Commandment is another top contender, falling around 6-1 odds at most secure sports betting sites. Of course, no top three list would be complete without Further Ado, who is available at between +450 and +650 odds to win the Derby.
With 18 horses taking the field, there are plenty of longshots, too. Intrepido and Right to Party, for instance, are both listed at +10000 odds at multiple sportsbooks.

Renegade is the opening favorite for the 2026 Kentucky Derby at better than 4-1 odds at top sports betting sites. Bovada offers the best value at +375 for Renegade, who was sired by Into Mischief.
He was trained by Todd Pletcher, who has trained two previous Derby winners. Renegade is undefeated so far in 2026, winning the Sam F. Davis and the Arkansas Derby. He had to overcome a slow start in the latter to secure his first G1 win.
Commandment

Commandment is one of the two top Kentucky Derby contenders trained by Brad H. Cox. He has won his last four races, including the Mucho Macho Man, Fountain of Youth (G2), and Florida Derby (G1).
Oddsmakers have Commandment listed at around 6-1 odds to win this year’s Derby. Like Renegade, Commandment was sired by Into Mischief. If Commandment’s late race speed holds up as it did at the Florida Derby, he could upset Renegade at Churchill Downs.

Rounding out the consensus top three is Further Ado, who was also trained by Brad H. Cox. Some sites list Further Ado ahead of Renegade, so it is vital that bettors shop for the best value when choosing between the two.
The offspring of Gunner Runner and Sky Dreamer, Further Ado broke his maiden at Keeneland in October. Since then, he also won the 2025 Kentucky Jockey Club (G2) and the 2026 Blue Grass (G1). Further Ado finished second at the Tampa Bay Derby (G3) in March.
Chief Wallabee

Chief Wallabee won a Maiden Special Weight (MSW) in October at Gulfstream Park. He then finished second in the Fountain of Youth and third at the Florida Derby.
He was sired by Constitution and trained by William Mott, a five-time Eclipse Award winner. Mott has trained two prior Derby winners, Country House (2019) and Sovereignty (2025). Chief Wallabee’s lack of G1 wins, though, is concerning ahead of the Derby.
The Puma

The Puma, trained by Gustavo Delgado, is the offspring of 2021 Belmont Stakes winner Essential Quality and the Declaration of War mare Eve of War. He has one stakes win under his belt, betting Further Ado for the top spot at the 2026 Tampa Bay Derby.
BetUS offers the shortest odds for The Puma at +950, while Bovada and BetOnline have him listed at +1200 and +1000, respectively. The Puma has not won a G1 race yet, but he did finish second to Commandment at this year’s Florida Derby.

Rounding out the top six is Emerging Market, whose odds range from +1250 at BetUS to +1800 at Bovada.
Emerging Market, who was sired by Candy Ride, won his maiden race at Tampa Bay Downs in February. He followed up that win with a victory at the 2026 Louisiana Derby (G2). Despite his success so far, though. Emerging Market has yet to test his speed on a G1 track.
Best Kentucky Derby Sleepers
With 18 horses expected to compete, there are plenty of options for betting on dark horses in this year’s Kentucky Derby. My top Kentucky Derby sleepers are:
- Silent Tactic (+2800)
- Litmus Test (+3000)
- Right to Party (+11000)
Silent Tactic (+2800)
Silent Tactic has been one of the most active horses in recent months. Since breaking his maiden in October, he has raced five times, including winning the Southwest Stakes (G3). Silent Tactic, who was sired by Tacitus, finished second in his four other races, including the Arkansas Derby.
If you want to wager on Silent Tactic, I recommend Bovada, which has him listed at 28-1, slightly better than the 25-1 odds available at BetUS and BetOnline.
Litmus Test (+3000)
Litmus Test is another sleeper I am expecting to have a strong showing at this year’s Kentucky Derby.
He was sired by 2016 Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist and trained by the legendary Bob Baffert. Litmus Test has two wins under his belt, including the 2025 Los Alamitos Futurity (G2) and an MSW.
Right to Party (+11000)
Rounding out my list of sleepers for the 2026 Kentucky Derby is Right to Party. Sired by Constitution, Right Party won an MSW in January before finishing second and third at the Wood Memorial (G2) and Gotham (G3), respectively. He would be the second horse trained by Kenneth McPeek to win the Derby, following in the footsteps of 2024’s Mystik Dan.
BetUS has Right to Party listed at +10000 odds to win, but you can get slightly better value at BetOnline, where he is listed at +11000 odds. Either way, even a small wager would create a massive payday.
Our Kentucky Derby 2026 Picks and Best Bets
My best bet to win the 2026 Kentucky Derby is Further Ado. Depending on where you bet, he has either the second or third-best odds.
Further Ado has the second-highest rating of any horse expected to compete at Churchill Downs. He is rated at 7.90, just behind fellow Brad H. Cox trainee Commandment (7.91). Further Ado has also won three of his last four races heading into the Derby, including a G1 at the 2026 Blue Grass Derby.
Veteran jockey John Velazquez will be taking the reins atop Further Ado at the Derby. Velazquez has three Derby wins to his name, with his most recent win coming in 2020. He has six total Triple Crown wins in his career.
My top sleeper pick is Litmus Test at 30-1 odds. He has a championship lineage and a legendary trainer in Baffert. With the right position draw, Litmus Test could be Baffert’s seventh Derby winner.
