What lacrosse leagues would you bet on?

Anonymous, June 21, 2025

Taylor Smith Author Image

Answer

Taylor Smith,

I would bet on an NCAA conference and the Premier Lacrosse League. I prefer focusing on a single college league, such as the Ivy League or the Atlantic Coast Conference, because it enables me to follow and analyze a smaller group of teams. Those conferences also get better press and TV exposure. The PLL is the exclusive summer pro league and also gets good exposure. You’ll find more recurring head-to-head matchups.

What’s the easiest type of lacrosse bet for beginners?

Anonymous, June 21, 2025

Taylor Smith Author Image

Answer

Taylor Smith,

The easiest type of lacrosse bet for beginners is the point spread bet for a match. With this bet, the favored team gives points, the underdog takes points, and the vigorish or percentage the sportsbook gets is usually the same for both sides, about 10% or -110 in moneyline numbers. For instance, if you pick Yale over Harvard and Yale is listed at -3.5, Yale must win by 4 points or more to cash in. If you bet on Harvard at +3.5 and Harvard gets within 3 points or wins, you win.

Why are lacrosse odds different across sportsbooks?

Anonymous, June 21, 2025

Isaac Payne Author Image

Answer

Isaac Payne,

Lacrosse odds are different across sportsbooks primarily because of differing analyses and money movements. Each sportsbook has a team that analyzes how the public will bet and sets odds to draw an equal amount of wagering on both sides. When the odds are set, larger amounts of money may come in for one side, often because of professional bettor influence. This causes the odds to change. A book may also get new information on injuries or weather.

Most Popular Lacrosse Leagues

Most Popular Lacrosse Leagues

Here are the top lacrosse leagues based on popularity and media exposure. The rules, number of players, field sizes, and equipment vary for some leagues.

NCAA Mens Championship Lacrosse

NCAA Men

College lacrosse is the most traditional set of leagues, going back to the 1800s. It gets a lot of attention, particularly during conference and national tournaments. Division I matches are the most common on the sportsbook boards.

NCAA Lacrosse womens

NCAA Women

Women’s lacrosse is popular among Division I schools, but you are not likely to find odds until the national championship tournament.

Premiere Lacrosse League

Premier Lacrosse League

The PLL is a professional league that was established in 2018. It replacied the more traditional Major League Lacrosse through a merger. The PLL consists of eight teams across the US. Top lacrosse betting sites post odds throughout the PLL summer season.

National Lacrosse League

National Lacrosse League

The NLL is the pro indoor or “box” league that has a popular following among its 14 teams in the US and Canada.  Sportsbooks regularly post odds during its winter schedule.

Types of Lacrosse Bets Explained

Types of Lacrosse Bets Explained

Sportsbooks list the same types of betting odds for lacrosse as for other sports, so if you wager on baseball, for example, you’ll be familiar with how lacrosse betting looks. If you haven’t wagered before, here are explainers for each type of bet you will find:

  • Moneylines – These are odds on the winner of a matchup. The figures are based on a $100 bet, but your betslip will convert your return for any size bet you make. And there are plenty of free odds calculators available for reference. You will find moneylines in plus numbers for underdogs and minus figures for favorites. An example is -250 vs. +150 in a matchup. If you take the dog in this one for $100, and your team wins, you will win $150. So, the payout will be the $100 you put up plus the $150 you win to equal $250. If, however, you like the favorite and place the $100 bet, your winning profit will be just $40, or a total payout of $140.
  • Point Spreads – Lacrosse is a higher-scoring game than other goal sports, so you are likely to find a point-spread option for betting. Lets say the book lists a favorite of 3.5 points. It is listed as -3.5, and the underdog is +3.5. If you play the favorite, your team must win by 4 points or more to “cover.” The underdog, however, gets the 3.5, so if you bet on that team, it must get to within 3 points or win the game for you to take the wager. The .5 is often added to avoid a tie or “push.” The point spreads usually come with a moneyline of -110 for each side, accounting for the 10% profit that sportsbooks typically charge.
  • Totals or Over/Unders – Here, you are trying to predict whether teams in a match will go over or under the total score the sportsbook lists. Let’s say the book lists the Boston Cannons and Utah Archers at a total of 25.5. Boston wins, 18-12, for a total of 30. If you picked the over 25.5, you win, while an under pick would lose. Totals are also accompanied by moneylines of around -110 for either side.
  • Futures – These wagers usually pertain to long-term outcomes of leagues and divisions, typically championship predictions. Before the season starts, a sportsbook will post moneyline odds based on each team’s chances to win the league title. The favored team will be listed as around +300 to +500, while the lines for longshots can go up to +5000 or more. If you correctly predict a +800 team to take the title for $10, you take an $80 profit at the end of the season. Championship futures are the most common of these types of bet options and the futures you are most likely to find for lacrosse.
  • Parlays – A parlay is an attempt to predict two or more outcomes combined in a single wager. For instance, you think the New York Atlas and the Denver Outlaws will win on the same day against their respective foes. You can choose to parlay those bets for a bigger return than you would get with both games bet individually. You can mix straight-up moneylines, spreads, and totals for parlays. For big lacrosse events, you may even toss in a proposition bet, such as the number of goals a particular player will score in a game.
  • Propositions – “Prop” bets are on the outcome of an event within a game other than the overall outcome or score. For instance, you may find a wager on who will score the first goal or how many saves a goalkeeper will get. Props are usually reserved for the biggest events, so you are unlikely to find lacrosse props until playoff time.
  • Live Betting – Also called in-game betting, these odds change as a match progresses. But you are unlikely to find lacrosse live betting until playoff time, when the interest grows.

What You Can Bet On in Lacrosse

The most common lacrosse betting options are individual-game moneylines, point spreads, and totals. You can also build parlays on those options, but most sites prohibit same-game parlays, such as a parlay on the moneyline and total for a single game. The best online lacrosse betting sites will also offer seasonal futures, props, and live betting for playoffs and championships.

Lacrosse Betting Strategy Tips & Common Mistakes to Avoid

Lacrosse Betting Strategy Tips & Common Mistakes to Avoid

Lacrosse betting is like any other sports betting in terms of bankroll management and shopping for value. Here are some other tips for betting on lacrosse:

  • Know the League – Rules and play styles differ between each league, college or pro. The differences in shot clock duration, number of players, field sizes, and rules of contact dictate strategy and scoring in each league. Avoid carrying over scoring expectations from, say, NCAA games to PLL games.
  • Be Aware of Pace – How fast or deliberate a particular team plays is essential in a lacrosse matchup. Know a team’s playing style and how it may affect the game outcome or total score. Also, be aware of how a team can impose its own pace on another team.
  • Who’s Hot, Who’s Not – The recent form of a lacrosse team often affects the next matchup. Follow the season to be up on win or loss streaks and points scored. Don’t get caught betting one way just because you think a team is “due.”
  • Head-to-Head – Most lacrosse seasons set repeat matchups on schedules. Keep in mind how two teams did in their previous matchup. You can be fooled by a supposedly weaker team that has good results against a supposedly stronger one.
  • Look to the Stars and Seniors – Key players, their health and form, are crucial to outcomes. Educate yourself on top scorers, defenders, and goalkeepers and how they’ve performed in recent games. On college teams, look for the number of seniors to make a difference. Don’t let injuries catch you off guard.
  • Find a Good Home – There is a home-field advantage in lacrosse if there is a true home field. Lacrosse games, particularly those in the PLL, are often played at neutral sites. The PLL is more like a touring league that hosts all of its teams at a different site each week. Know where a team is playing before factoring in home or away.

Responsible Gambling

Gambling ceases to be fun when you find yourself in a financial hole, neglecting loved ones, or thinking you have to bet on something every day. Practice responsible gambling and assess yourself by studying some of these sites:

Lacrosse is a Rising Sports Betting Option

Lacrosse is one of the more remote sports, but it’s growing in popularity. As of now, lacrosse betting sites do not offer as wide a range of betting options as they do for more popular sports. But the areas we’ve covered on this page should help you be a better handicapper who knows the sites to turn to for the most lacrosse action. It’s a great sport to follow and watch, so study up, go to one of our sites, and put your skills to the test at faceoff time.
