Malik Beasley’s NBA career appears to be over after the journeyman shooting guard was indicted for fixing NBA bets. Beasley and former NBA player Ed Davis were two of six co-defendants indicted in the latest NBA betting scandal.

Why Was Malik Beasley Indicted?

Former NBA player Malik Beasley, a 2016 first-round pick by the Denver Nuggets, was indicted on multiple charges, including:

  • Sports bribery
  • Conspiracy to commit wire fraud
  • Honest services fraud
  • Conspiracy to commit money laundering

The charges stem from a gambling scheme designed and executed by Davis and Beasley in the 2023-2024 season.

According to reports, Davis recruited Beasley into the gambling ring to help pay off Beasley’s gambling debts. In exchange for the loan, Beasley would help the other co-conspirators win bets during the 2023-24 season while playing with the Milwaukee Bucks.

News of the investigation broke in 2025, costing Beasley a multi-year extension with Detroit. He played briefly for the Cangrejeros de Santurce in Puerto Rico’s Baloncesto Superior Nacional earlier this year.

What Games Did Malik Beasley Fix?

Sports betting is a lot of fun when the games are fair. However, according to the indictment, Beasley and Davis worked to fix bets in multiple games during the 2023-24 season.

Jan. 26th, 2024: Cavaliers vs. Bucks

The earliest publicly known game in the gambling scheme was a Jan. 26th matchup between the Cavaliers and the Bucks in Milwaukee. Beasley, who averaged 11.3 PPG that season, scored just three points in the Bucks’ 112-100 loss. He is also accused of intentionally underperforming his rebounding prop.

Feb. 27th, 2024: Hornets vs. Bucks

A month later, Beasley had another allegedly intentionally poor shooting performance against the Hornets. He scored just six points in the Bucks’ blowout win. Despite his poor shooting, Beasley did manage to cover the over on his rebounding prop.

March 10th, 2024: Bucks vs. Clippers

Perhaps the most damning performance in the indictment, Beasley fought to the last seconds of the game to cover the over on his 3.5 rebounds prop.

Text messages between Beasley’s co-conspirators show them praising Beasley for preventing a major loss.

March 21st, 2024: Nets vs. Bucks

In the final alleged game Beasley and Davis manipulated, the Bucks defeated the Nets 115-108. However, Beasley mistakenly covered the over on his rebounding prop when he was supposed to stay under. After the mistake, the gambling ring attempted to force Beasley to continue fixing bets, but plans fell apart when news of the Jontay Porter betting scandal broke.
