2025 British Open Odds & Expert Betting Preview
The 2025 Open Championship odds are your last opportunity to wager on a golf major this season. It is the oldest tournament in pro golf, dating back to the mid-19th century. The age of the tournament has led to many unique traditions, including the links-style courses that host the event.
This guide highlights the updated Open Championship odds for this year’s top golfers. I will analyze the current favorites and break down my predictions for the 2025 Champion Golfer of the Year.
2025 British Open Overview
I will explain the latest odds to win the Open Championship below. Before digging into the betting lines at top golf sportsbooks, let’s look at the tournament information for this year’s event.
- Date: July 17th to July 20th
- Course: Royal Portrush Golf Club
- Location: Portrush, County Antrim, Northern Ireland
- Trophy: Claret Jug
The Royal Portrush Golf Club has two links-style courses. This year’s British Open will be played on the Dunluce Links, also known as the championship course. Royal Portrush first hosted The Open in 1951 and most recently held the tournament in 2019.
Dunluce Links is widely considered one of the best courses in the world. In 2019, the last time The Open was played in Ireland, Irish golfer Shane Lowry took home the Claret Jug.
The reigning champion is Xander Schauffele, who finished nine under par last year. Schauffele is a top contender again this year. Other top golfers to watch include Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, and Bryson DeChambeau.

2025 Open Championship Odds
- Scottie Scheffler (+550)
- Rory McIlroy (+700)
- Jon Rahm (+1000)
- Bryson DeChambeau (+2200)
- Ludvig Aberg (+2500)
- Robert MacIntyre (+2500)
- Shane Lowry (+2500)
- Tommy Fleetwood (+2500)
- Xander Schauffele (+2500)
- Tyrrell Hatton (+2800)
- Viktor Hovland (+2800)
Bovada Sportsbook lists Scottie Scheffler as the +550 favorite to win the 2025 British Open. He won the PGA Championship earlier this year, but Scheffler has never cracked the top five in The Open in his previous four attempts.
Rory McIlroy, who won the Masters this year, has the second-best Open Championship 2025 odds at 7-1. He is closely followed by Jon Rahm, who is available at +1000.
Bryson DeChambeau is next at 22-1 odds, just ahead of the five-way tie for the fifth-best odds. Ludvig Aberg, Robert MacIntyre, Shane Lowry, Tommy Fleetwood, and Xander Schauffele are all listed at +2500. Tyrrell Hatton and Viktor Hovland are tied at +2800 for the 10th-best odds.
Scottie Scheffler (+550)
Scheffler, who has been the top tanked golfer in the year for nearly three consecutive years, is the +550 to win his first British Open this year. Scheffler has three major wins in his career, including two Masters titles (2022, 2024) and a PGA Championship (2025).
In his four previous appearances in The Open, Scheffler has finished in the top eight twice. Also, he has never finished worse than T23 in his four previous attempts.
Rory McIlroy (+700)
Irish golf legend Rory McIlroy has the second-best British Open odds at 7-1. He has won this tournament once before, claiming the Claret Jug in 2014. The closest he has come to winning a second British Open came in 2022 when he finished third.
The Open has been one of McIlroy’s tougher tournaments lately. He missed the cut at last year’s event. McIlroy also missed the cut in 2019, the last time the British Open was held at the Royal Portrush.
Despite his struggles, McIlroy has momentum going into this year’s event. McIlroy recently finished tied for second at the Genesis Scottish Open, coming in strokes behind Chris Gotterup.
Jon Rahm (+1000)
Another name to watch in this year’s event is Jon Rahm. He tied for second in 2023 but has yet to win the Claret Jug. Rahm is available at 10-1 in the latest British Open 2025 odds.
The Spaniard has competed in every British Open since 2016. In that time, Rahm has only missed the cut once. He has also finished in the top 10 three of the last four years. So far in 2025, Rahm has finished T14 or better in every major.
Shane Lowry (+2500)
Five golfers are tied at 25-1 in the updated British Open Championship odds, including Shane Lowry. Lowry is only 18th in the current Official World Golf Rankings and has just three PGA Tour wins in his career.
However, he did win the 2019 British Open. With the tournament returning to Royal Portrush, Lowry is a great sleeper option if he can repeat his performance from his first and only major tournament win.
Xander Schauffele (+2500)
Another sleeper tied at 25-1 odds is Xander Schauffele, the reigning British Open Champion. Schauffele also won the PGA Championship last year, giving him two majors in 2024.
Unfortunately, Schauffele has struggled to recreate that success this season. He finished T8 at the 2025 Masters, but he failed to make the top 10 at PGA Championship and the US Open.
- Prediction: Scottie Scheffler +550
The Open Championship 2025 Prop Bets
Picking the winner of a golf major outright is easier said than done. Luckily, there are thrilling and rewarding 2025 Open Championship prop odds for you to bet on.
Make or Miss the Cut
One of my favorite props in Bovada’s British Open odds for 2025 is make or miss the cut markets. You can wager on whether top contenders will make or miss the cut at The Open.
See the table below for a look at how some of the top contenders stack up in this market.
Golfer | Odds to Make the Cut | Odds to Miss the Cut |
---|---|---|
Scottie Scheffler | -1200 | +650 |
Rory McIlroy | -1000 | +550 |
Jon Rahm | -700 | +425 |
Bryson DeChambeau | -400 | +275 |
Shane Lowry | -400 | +275 |
Scheffler is the biggest favorite to make the cut at -1200, giving him an implied win probability of 92.31%.
The value in this market is finding a favorite who you think will miss the cut. For my money, Lowry (+275) is the best bet to miss the cut at The Open.
- Prediction: Shane Lowry misses the cut +275
Three Chances
Three-chance wagers are another popular way to wager on golf majors. For these bets, you pick three golfers instead of one who you think can win The Open.
American | European | LIV Golf |
---|---|---|
Scheffler, DeChambeau, or Schauffele (+325) | McIlroy, Rahm, or Aberg (+300) | Rahm, DeChambeau, or Hatton (+525) |
Scheffler, DeChambeau, or Morikawa (+330) | McIlroy, Rahm, or MacIntyre (+300) | Rahm, DeChambeau, or Koepka (+600) |
Scheffler, Schauffele, or Morikawa (+350) | McIlroy, Rahm, or Lowry (+300) | Rahm, DeChambeau, or Niemann (+600) |
My pick for this type of market is the trio of Scheffler, Schauffele, and Morikawa. You get the world number one, the reigning champion, and the 2021 British Open Champion in Morikawa.
- Prediction: Scheffler, Schauffele, or Morikawa wins +350
Top Amateur
One of the best parts of The Open is that it is, in theory, open to any golfer good enough to qualify for the event. As a result, there are plenty of amateurs who take the field every year.
Here are Bovada’s latest odds for the best amateur finish at the 2025 British Open Champion.
- Ethan Fang (+350)
- Filip Jakubcik (+375)
- Connor Graham (+400)
- Justin Hastings (+500)
- Cameron Adam (+550)
Ethan Fang is the favorite at +350, and he is closely followed by Filip Jakubcik (+375). However, my pick is Justin Hastings, who won this year’s Latin American Amateur Championship.
- Prediction: Justin Hastings +500

What Are Your British Open Predictions?
Scottie Scheffler is the favorite in The Open Championship odds ahead of the 2025 tournament. He has never finished in the top five of the event, but I think Scheffler will change that with a Claret Jug-worthy performance this year.
