Kansas City’s crushing loss in Super Bowl 59 made it easy to forget about the Chiefs’ dominant 2024 season. The Chiefs earned a 15-2 record last season and only lost one game with Patrick Mahomes under center.

The designated home team for this year’s NFL Brazil game is the Los Angeles Chargers. Giving up a home game against a divisional opponent is unfair, but, on the bright side, the Chargers have little to no home-field advantage in LA.
Justin Herbert and company went 11-6 in the regular season last year. However, two of their six losses came against Kansas City, losing 17-10 and 19-17 to the Chiefs in Weeks 4 and 14, respectively.
On the bright side, the Chargers finished 4-2 in the division, sweeping the Raiders and the Broncos.
Herbert’s career stats against the Chiefs include:

Mahomes has never lost a road game against the Chargers, and that streak will continue in Brazil. I recommend taking the Chiefs’ moneyline for the second game of the NFL season.
Also, KC will cover the 3.0-point spread. The Chiefs have won their road matchups against the Chargers by at least 3.0 points in four of the last five years. Mahomes and company have extra motivation to play well on the national stage after their disastrous performance in the Super Bowl.
KC and LA have formidable defenses. The Chiefs should win comfortably, but the teams will not cover the 45.5 points.

Another player I like to score this Friday is the Chargers’ second-year wide receiver Ladd McConkey. He is listed at +175 odds to score any time, but I believe he will be LA’s first touchdown scorer on Friday.
McConkey is listed at 5-1 to be LA’s first TD scorer in Brazil. He has the third-best odds behind Hampton (+330) and Harris (+350).
KC has a great run defense that will be focused on stopping Jim Harbaugh’s run-heavy offense. This should create opportunities for LA in the passing game, which increases McConkey’s odds of scoring the Chargers’ first touchdown of the 2025 season.
Total Points Under 40.5 (+165)
As mentioned above, oddsmakers list the total points for this game at over/under 45.5 points, and I favor the under. In fact, I doubt the Chiefs and Chargers will combine for more than 40.5 points.
