Arkansas (+200) and LSU (+220) are a close one and two, respectively, at the top of the latest MCWS odds boards. Coastal Carolina is a distant third at 6-1 odds, followed by Oregon State (+650), UCLA (+850), and Arizona (+1400).
Louisville, which is making its first MCWS since 2019, has the second-longest odds at 16-1. Murray State has the lowest odds of any team heading to Omaha at 35-1. This is the Racers’ first-ever appearance in the College World Series.
Arkansas Razorbacks (+200)
Coach Dave Van Horn led the Razorbacks to a 48-13 record this season. The Razorbacks have made the NCAA Tournament nearly every year since Van Horn took over. This will be Arkansas’s ninth appearance in the CWS under Van Horn.
Despite their success, the Razorbacks are still searching for their first national championship. The closest the Razorbacks have come to a championship with Van Horn was a runner-up finish in 2018.
Top sports betting sites list Arkansas as the +200 favorites in the opening college baseball odds for the 2025 MCWS.
Arkansas (#3) is the highest remaining seed in the tournament, but they arguably drew the worst matchup to open the CWS. The Razorbacks will face LSU (#6) in their first game. Arkansas went 1-2 in its three games against the Tigers this season.
The good news for Razorbacks fans is that Arkansas has proven it can win tough matchups. In the regional rounds, Arkansas beat North Dakota State in round one before beating Creighton twice to advance to the Super Regionals.
Arkansas earned its spot in the CWS by beating Tennessee in back-to-back games, ending the Volunteers’ hopes of defending their national title.
LSU Tigers (+220)
Speaking of LSU, the Tigers’ 48-15 record earned them the sixth seed in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. They have the second-best odds to win the CWS at +220.
Head Coach Jay Johnson led LSU to the National Championship in 2023. It was just his second season with the team. LSU missed the CWS last season, but they are one of, if not the, biggest threats in this year’s tournament.
The Tigers open the CWS against Arkansas, with the winner taking on either UCLA or Murray State. Even if they lose their first matchup, the Tigers would be favored against either the Bruins or the Racers in the elimination game.
LSU largely dominated in regional play this postseason. They beat Little Rock and Dallas Baptist 7-0 and 12-0, respectively.
However, the Tigers lost their rematch against Little Rock 4-10. LSU won the deciding third game 10-6. The Tigers went on to beat West Virginia 16-9 and 12-5 in the first two games of their three-game series.
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (+600)
After the frontrunners from the SEC, the College World Series 2025 odds drop quickly. Coastal Carolina (53-11), which has the best record of any remaining team, has the third-best odds at +600.
The Chanticleers had the best record in the Sun Belt Conference but only earned a 13th seed in the NCAA Tournament. So far in the postseason, Coastal Carolina has eliminated Fairfield, East Carolina, and Auburn.
This will be Coastal Carolina’s second CWS appearance in school history. In their first showing, they won the 2016 CWS.
Oregon State Beavers (+650)
Oregon State (47-14-1) is a close fourth behind the Chanticleers at +650. Despite the odds, the Beavers face an easier opening matchup against Louisville (40-22). Coastal Carolina, on the other hand, faces Arizona (44-19).
OSU was the top-seeded team in the Corvallis Regional. However, they lost their opening matchup to Saint Mary’s and had to win their way back into contention by dominating the lower bracket.
After losing to Saint Mary’s, the Beavers took out (#2) TCU, Saint Mary’s, and (#3)USC to win the region. OSU then beat Florida State in the Corvallis Super Regionals to punch their ticket to the MCWS.
UCLA Bruins (+850)
Rounding out the top five are the Bruins, who are listed at +850 to win their first CWS since 2013. UCLA had a 47-16 record in the regular season, earning them the #15 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
The Bruins are 8-1 so far this postseason, with UCLA’s only defeat being a 5-0 loss to Nebraska in the finals of the Big Ten conference tournament.
UCLA did not win the automatic bid, but they still made the cut for the NCAA Tournament. The Bruins dominated the Los Angeles Regional and Super Regionals, beating Fresno State, Arizona State, UC Irvine, and UTSA.
Predictions: LSU Tigers win the 2025 College World Series (+220)
College World Series Format Explained
College baseball uses a unique bracket system to determine its national champion each season. Here is everything you need to know about the CWS format before betting on the event.
Qualifying for the College World Series
First things first, how are the eight teams chosen for the College World Series? Like other major college sports, it starts with the NCAA Tournament.
A total of 64 teams qualify for the tournament and are split into one of eight Super Regional brackets. The top two teams in each region face off in the Super Regional final, with the winner earning one of the eight spots in the College World Series.
2025 College World Series Brackets
After the eight CWS teams are determined, they are placed into one of two four-team brackets. Each bracket consists of three rounds, with the winner moving on to the finals to face the top team from the other bracket.
Unlike March Madness, the CWS uses a double-elimination format. So, one loss will not eliminate a school from the tournament.
The brackets for this year’s MCWS are as follows:
Bracket 1 | Bracket 2 |
---|---|
Coastal Carolina vs. Arizona | UCLA vs. Murray State |
Oregon State vs. Louisville | Arkansas vs. LSU |
Coastal Carolina opens Bracket 1 against Arizona, while Oregon State will take on Louisville. IN Bracket 2, UCLA will face Murray State, and Arkansas will square off with SEC rival LSU.
Double Elimination Format
If you are new to the CWS, you may be wondering how the double elimination format works.
Let’s look at Bracket 2 from last year’s CWS as an example. Florida opened the tournament with a 3-2 loss to Texas A&M. Despite the loss, the Gators were not eliminated from the College World Series.
Instead, the Gators were dropped to the lower bracket. Florida’s next game was against NC State, which had lost its first-round matchup against Kentucky. Florida beat NC State, and Texas A&M beat Kentucky.
The Gators’ win over NC State allowed Florida to advance to the second round. Since Kentucky lost, they dropped to the lower bracket. Florida played Kentucky and beat the Wildcats 15-2.
After beating Kentucky, the Gators earned the right to play Texas A&M again in the semifinals. The Gators would have needed to beat the Aggies twice to move on to the finals.
Unfortunately for Florida, their luck ran out in their rematch against Texas A&M, with the Gators losing 6-0. Their second loss in the CWS eliminated the Gators from the tournament.
How to Win the MCWS
Every team can afford one loss in the Men’s College World Series, but how do you win the tournament? The simple answer is you win at least five games.
There are four rounds in the MCWS, and a team must win at least three games without losing more than one to make the finals. The finals pit the winning teams from Bracket 1 and Bracket 2 against each other in a three-game series.
