Patrick Bertoletti won last year’s contest with 58 hot dogs and buns (HDB) eaten in the 10-minute time limit. Despite his performance last year, Bertoletti has just the third-best odds to win this year at +750. He is behind 16-time champion Joey Chestnut (-2500) and James Webb (+200), who finished third last year..

Chestnut was banned from the event over sponsorship issues, but that did not stop him from competing in his own contest. He competed in a 4-on-1 contest against four soldiers at Fort Bliss. Chestnut won the contest, eating 57 HDB to the soldiers’ combined 49, in the five-minute time limit.

Joey Chestnut (-2500)

Joey Chestnut’s ban from last year’s competition opened the door for a new eater to claim the Mustard Belt. However, Chestnut is back for the 2025 competition, effectively closing the door on the competition.

BetOnline lists Chestnut as a -2500 favorite to claim victory in his return to Nathan’s. In 2023, Chestnut downed 62 glizzies to win his 16th Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating contest.

He also holds the event record, 76 HDB, which he set in 2021. Last year, Chestnut faced off with Takeru Kobayashi in Netflix’s Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef. Chestnut ate 83 HDB in the 10-minute time limit, easily beating Kobayashi’s 67 HDB.

James Webb (+200)

The eater with the best odds to upset Chestnut at Coney Island this year is James Webb. He finished third last year, eating 52 HDB in the time limit. Secure sports betting sites list Webb at +200 odds to win this year’s Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Webb does not hold any record in hot dog eating contests. However, he does have multiple eating records, including the record for Texas sausages eaten in 10 minutes. Webb at 53 sausages at the 2025 ManorPalooza World Texas Sausage-Eating Championship.

Patrick Bertoletti (+750)

In Chestnut’s absence, Patrick Bertoletti stepped up and won the 2024 Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating contest. Bertoletti gulped down 58 HDB, five more than the closest competitor.

Despite his performances last year, Bertoletti is only listed at +750 odds to repeat as the champion this year. His current odds give Bertoletti an implied win probability of 11.76%. He beat the field last year, but Bertoletti barely topped Chestnut’s score even though he had double the time.

Geoffrey Esper (+1600)

Rounding out the top four is Geoffrey Esper, who is available at 16-1 odds to win the hot dog eating contest in 2025. Like Bertoletti, Esper’s odds are not reflective of his finish last year. Esper was second to Bertoletti, scarfing down 53 HDB in the allotted time.

He owns over a dozen MLE records, including:

  • 36 brats (4.5 oz) in 10 minutes
  • 76 brats (3.2 oz) in 10 minutes
  • 83 slices of pizza in 10 minutes
  • 281 chicken wings in 10 minutes

Esper had a great shot at winning last year’s contest, but he came up five HDB short. He will have an even tougher time winning now that Chestnut is back in the competition.

2025 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest Predictions

Joey “Jaws” Chestnut is the best hot dog eater of our lifetime, bar none. With Jaws back at the table for the 2025 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, it is tough to imagine anyone else walking away with the Mustard Belt.

At -2500, Chestnut does not offer much betting value. However, Jaws proved last year that no one can hold a candle to him when it is hot dog-eating time.

  • Prediction: Joey Chestnut -2500

Hot Dog Eating Contest Props

BetOnline also offers competitive prop betting lines for Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating contest. Here are four props that I recommend betting on this Fourth of July.

Men’s World Record Broken

  • Yes (+500)

Chestnut ate an astonishing 83 HDB to win his final showdown with Kobayashi. However, because the contest did not conform to MLE rules, he did not break his own world record.

Despite that technicality, Chestnut proved he could eat more than his record 76 HDB world record. The rule changes, such as not being able to dip buns in water or separate the hot dogs from the buns, made the competition more challenging.

BetOnline lists the odds of the men’s record being broken at +500. So, for every $100 that you wager on this prop, you could win $500 if anyone, not just Chestnut, breaks the record.

Realistically, though, Jaws is the only one who could break his record.

If Chestnut can recreate his performance from September, he could shatter the record. Also, Jaws has plenty of motivation to break the record after he was banned from last year’s competition. With that in mind, I recommend placing at least a small wager on this prop.

  • Prediction: Yes +500

Patrick Bertoletti Number of Hot Dogs Eaten

  • Over 49.5 HDB (-140)
  • Under 49.5 HDB (+100)

BetOnline also offers total HBD bets for the top competitors. Patrick Bertoletti, last year’s winner, is listed at over/under 49.5 HDB.

For reference, Bertoletti at 58 HDB last year. Also, Joey Chestnut, this year’s favorite, is listed at over/under 71.5 HDB. Bertoletti is a slight favorite at -140 to eat over 49.5 HDB in this year’s competition.

He is the defending champion, but Bertoletti has struggled to put together back-to-back 50+ HDB performances. With that in mind, I recommend taking the under on his HDB total for this year’s contest.

  • Prediction: Under 49.5 HDB +100

James Webb vs. Geoffrey Esper

  • James Webb (+100)
  • Geoffrey Esper (-140)

You can wager on specific head-to-heads as well. For instance, Geoffrey Esper is a -140 favorite to eat more HDB than James Webb (+100). Esper beat Webb’s total last year. However, Webb has better odds of winning this year’s competition than Esper.

BetOnline has Esper’s total listed at over/under 50.5 HDB. Webb, on the other hand, is listed at over/under 49.5 HDB eaten at this year’s event.

Webb is the underdog, but he is the better bet in this option. After a record-setting performance at this year’s ManorPalooza, I think Webb will clear 50 HDB this 4th of July. That will likely be enough to beat Esper, who has only topped 50 twice in his career.

  • Prediction: James Webb +100

Miki Sudo vs. Nick Wehry

  • Miki Sudo (+140)
  • Nick Wehry (-180)

Another interesting head-to-head to bet on for this year’s Nathan Hot Dog Eating Contest 2025 pits Miki Sudo against Nick Wehry. Sudo has won the women’s contest 10 times and is undefeated in the event.

Last year, Sudo broke the record for most hot dogs eaten in 10 minutes by a woman when she consumed 51 HDB. Wehry, her husband, finished fourth in the men’s contest with 46.75 HDB eaten in 10 minutes.

Sudo’s over/under is set at 44.5 HDB, while Wehry is listed at 46.5 HDB.

Despite their total projections, I think Sudo will beat Wehry in this year’s contest. She set a career and world record last year and should be even better this year. Wehry, on the other hand, has struggled to reach the high 40s, let alone top 50, in his career.

  • Prediction: Miki Sudo +140
