Miami Dolphins vs. Cleveland Browns -3.0 (-105)
Team | Point Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Miami Dolphins | +3.0 (-115) | +136 | Over 39.5 (-114) |
Cleveland Browns | -3.0 (-105) | -165 | Under 39.5 (-106) |
The Dolphins could not hold on last week against the Chargers, losing 29-27 at home and falling to 1-5 on the season. Miami’s lone win so far this season came against the still winless New York Jets (0-6).
They hit the road this week, taking on the Browns (1-5) in Cleveland. Barring a tie, one of these teams will earn its second win of the season this Sunday. Cleveland is the 3.0-point home favorite for this battle of 1-5 teams.
The Browns will be starting rookie Dillon Gabriel for the third straight game. Gabriel’s stats have not been impressive so far, but that is largely by design.
Cleveland was relying on its running game and defense to try to win even before Gabriel took over the starting job. Now that the rookie is the starter, the Browns have leaned even more into running the ball and playing defense.
Miami has one of the worst rushing defenses in the league, surrendering the third-most yards per carry (5.6) so far this season. With that in mind, I think the Browns will have plenty of room to run this weekend, and they will pick up the first win of Gabriel’s young NFL career this weekend.
- Prediction: Browns -165
Philadelphia Eagles -1.5 (-110) vs. Minnesota Vikings
Team | Point Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Philadelphia Eagles | -1.5 (-110) | -128 | Over 43.5 (-110) |
Minnesota Vikings | +1.5 (-110) | +105 | Under 43.5 (-110) |
Philadelphia has dropped back-to-back games after its 4-0 start. On the bright side, the Eagles last played on Thursday Night Football, giving the team extra time to find its footing before its game against Minnesota this weekend.
The Vikings were on a bye last week, so they should also be well-rested for this game. Despite the rest, Minnesota is a 1.5-point underdog against the defending Super Bowl champions.
One reason to doubt the Vikings is the uncertainty surrounding their quarterback position. J.J. McCarthy has been out since suffering an ankle injury in Week 2. Carson Wentz, the team’s backup, has gone 2-1 as McCarthy’s replacement.
However, Wentz is dealing with an injury to his non-throwing shoulder. Wentz was drafted second overall by the Eagles in 2016, but his injury may prevent the quarterback from getting his revenge game against his former team.
Given the Vikings’ QB questions, taking the Eagles -1.5 makes the most sense.
- Prediction: Eagles -1.5 -110
Indianapolis Colts vs. Los Angeles Chargers -2.0 (-105)
Team | Point Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Indianapolis Colts | +2.0 (-115) | +107 | Over 48.5 (-110) |
Los Angeles Chargers | -2.0 (-105) | -130 | Under 48.5 (-110) |
The Colts (5-1) and Chargers (4-2) square off this weekend in LA in a battle of teams leading their respective divisions. If the playoffs started today, Indianapolis would be the top seed in the AFC, and LA would be the third seed.
Los Angeles earned a close win last week in Miami, and the Chargers are 2.0-point favorites at home this weekend.
Unfortunately for the Chargers, they are once again beleaguered by injuries. Running backs Najee Harris and Omarion Hampton are both on IR. Wide receiver Quentin Johnston, who leads the team in receiving yards (377) and receiving TDs (4), missed last week’s game with a hamstring injury.
A beat-up Chargers’ offense will struggle against this Colts’ defense. Indy allows just 19.3 PPG, fourth-lowest, and 96.3 rushing YPG. The Colts’ offense has also been surprisingly productive, averaging a league-high 32.3 PPG.
With that in mind, I think the Colts will pull off the upset this week in LA.
- Prediction: Colts +107
Washington Commanders -1.5 (-112) vs. Dallas Cowboys
Team | Point Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Washington Commanders | -1.5 (-112) | -130 | Over 55.0 (-113) |
Dallas Cowboys | +1.5 (-108) | +106 | Under 55.0 (-107) |
One of the marquee matchups of Week 7 pits the Commanders (3-3) against the Cowboys (2-3-1) in Dallas. Both teams lost last week, but thanks to Philly’s recent struggles, neither is out of the division race.
The Cowboys have scored 40 points in each of their two home games this season but are just 1-0-1 in those matchups. Both of their home games have also gone to overtime.
Washington’s offense has also been productive this season, averaging 26.3 PPG.
The Commanders’ defense, however, struggled to contain D’Andre Swift last week. Swift racked up 175 scrimmage yards on just 16 touches, paving the way for Chicago’s 25-24 win.
If Washington’s defensive struggles continue this week, they will be in trouble against a high-scoring Cowboys’ offense that could be getting CeeDee Lamb back this week. Even without Lamb, Dallas is a live dog at home this Sunday.
- Prediction: Cowboys +106
Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Detroit Lions -5.5 (-110)
Team | Point Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Tampa Bay Buccaneers | +5.5 (-110) | +200 | Over 52.5 (-107) |
Detroit Lions | -5.5 (-110) | -250 | Under 52.5 (-113) |
Rounding out my top NFL predictions for Week 7 is the Monday Night Football matchup between the Buccaneers (5-1) and the Lions (4-2). Baker Mayfield is playing at an MVP-level so far this season, but the Bucs are 5.5-point underdogs in Detroit this Monday.
The Lions looked unprepared on both sides of the ball in their 30-17 loss to the Chiefs on SNF last week. Detroit’s defense, especially its secondary, is riddled with injuries.
Those defensive injuries will cost the Lions again this week. Tampa Bay’s receiving corps is also beat-up, but Mayfield has found a way to be productive anyway.
Mayfield and company upset the Lions in Detroit early last season, when the Lions still had a healthy defense. Now that Detroit is once again hampered by injuries, the Bucs will have an easier path to another upset win over the Lions. The Bucs plus the points is the best bet in this prime-time showdown
- Prediction: Buccaneers +5.5 -110
