The 2025 World Series of Poker Main Event will kick off on July 2nd, with the champion being crowned on the 16th. The event will be a $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em Main Event.

Will the WSOP Main Event Winner be an American?

One of the easiest ways to wager on WSOP Main Event winners is to bet on their nationality. Secure sports betting sites list American players at -130 to win this year’s Main Event. The rest of the world is a close underdog at -110.

There are thousands of players in the Main Event every year, so wagering on one player to win is easier said than done. Last year, for instance, 10,112 players entered the WSOP Main Event. Betting on the nationality of the winner significantly increases your odds of winning.

Americans have won the WSOP Main Event in back-to-back years. However, from 2013 to 2022, only four of the six winners were from the US. With that in mind, I would recommend taking the field at -110 in this WSOP prop bet.

Age of the 2025 Main Event Winner

Another way to bet on the upcoming WSOP Main Event is to bet on the age of the winner. BetUS has this market divided into four options.

• 20s (+225)
• 30s (+175)
• 40s (+250)
• 50 or older (+400)

Players in their 30s are the +175 favorite to win this year’s WSOP Main Event. They are closely followed by participants in their 20s (+225) and 40s (+250). Players 50 years of age and older are the underdogs at 4-1 odds.

Four straight WSOP Main Event winners have been in their 30s. The last winner not in their 30s was Damian Salas, who won the Main Event in 2020. Salas was also the first Main Event winner from Argentina.

30-year-olds have been on a hot streak, but many of the top players, including former winners like John Cynn, are now in their 40s. Choosing players in their 40s also offers a better return. With that in mind, I suggest betting on a player in their 40s to win this year’s Main Event.

Winning Hand of the 2025 WSOP Main Event

• Pair (+110)
• High card (+250)
• Two Pair (+400)
• Three-of-a-kind (+1200)
• Full house (+1400)
• Straight (+1400)
• Flush (+2500)
• Four-of-a-kind (+10000)
• Straight flush (+15000)
• Royal Flush (+25000)

You can also wager on the winning hand for this year’s WSOP Main Event. A pair is the favorite at +110, followed by high card (+250), two pair (+400), and three-of-a-kind (+1200).

Most of the odds for this wager correlate to the likelihood of each hand. The exception is that a pair has better odds than a high card, even though it is less likely to be dealt. However, it is challenging to win with only a high card and nothing else.

For reference, Jonathan Tamayo won the Main Event last year with two pair. Other recent winning hands include:

• 2023 – Pair
• 2022 – Full House
• 2021 – Two Pair
• 2020 – Full House
• 2019 – Pair

A pair, two pair, or full house hand has won the last six WSOP Main Events. Of the three, a full house (+1400) has the best payout odds and is my pick to be this year’s winning hand.

River Card on the WSOP 2025 Winning Hand

• Any Ace (+1000)
• Any King (+1000)
• Any Queen (+1000)
• Any Jack (+1000)
• Any 10 (+1000)

Finally, BetUS also offers odds on the river card of the winning hand for the final table of the WSOP Main Event. The river is the fifth of the five community cards in Texas Hold’em.

Before the cards are dealt, every card has the same odds of being the final card dealt. So, it should be no surprise that every card is listed at 10-1 odds in this WSOP Main Event prop bet.

The recent river cards for the winning WSOP Main Event hands were:

• 2024 – 5 of Diamonds
• 2023 – Ace of Hearts
• 2022 – 7 of Clubs
• 2021 – 9 of Clubs
• 2020 – King of Clubs
• 2019 – Queen of Clubs

Interestingly, four of the last six winning hand river cards were clubs. However, for this market, you are only picking the value of the card, not its suit.

There have also been no repeats in the last six river cards. If that continues, the field for this wager is cut nearly in half.

Ultimately, since there is no connection between years, the card is entirely random. So, you should pick a card you feel most confident in and hope for the best. My pick is for a Jack (+1000) to be the winning river card.

Top Contenders to Watch in 2025

Over 10,000 players entered last year’s WSOP Main Event, and this year is expected to have a huge turnout as well. Eventually, the contestants will be whittled down to a nine-player final table.

The 2025 WSOP schedule still has plenty of tournaments left, but some players who have stood out so far this year are:

• Michael Wilklow – Won the $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em Mystery Millions event
• Artur Martirosian – Won the $25,000 Heads-Up No-Limit Hold’em Championship
• Benny Glaser – Won the $1,500 Dealers Choice and $1,500 Mixed Omaha events

There are also well-known poker players who are still seeking their first WSOP Main Event championship, such as Daniel Negreanu and Ben Lamb.

Consider Recent Performance

Professional poker players compete in tournaments year-round to prepare for the WSOP. The good news for bettors is that the results of many tournaments can easily be found online.
