The AFC looks remarkably different from last year. New England has made a remarkable turnaround, and the Patriots are the favorite to win the AFC East. The Colts appear strong in their pursuit of the South, while the North is a tight race between the Steelers and Ravens. The Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers are battling for AFC West supremacy.
Kansas City, which was looking like a preseason favorite to make a return trip to the Super Bowl, is now facing the possibility of missing the playoffs. If they make it, they will likely be a wild card. The Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars are also likely wild-card teams.
The NFC is wide open, except for the East. The Philadelphia Eagles will easily take their division, while the other three teams are in a dead heat. The North is wide open with the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears atop the division. In the South, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers are battling for first place, while in the West, it’s a three-way race between the Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Rams, and San Francisco 49ers.
At this point in the season, the likely #1 seed from the NFL will be either the Eagles or the Seahawks, while the Colts and Broncos appear to be the best options for the AFC.
How the NFL Playoffs WorkThe NFL playoffs are a single-elimination tournament to crown a Super Bowl winner. The 14 teams with the best regular-season records make the playoffs, with seven teams from each conference.
There are four divisions in each conference, and the division winners automatically earn a playoff spot. The remaining three Wild Card spots are awarded to teams with the best records among non-division-winning teams.
The division winner with the best record earns the #1 seed for the conference and receives a bye in the first round of the playoffs. The remaining division winners, seeds 2 through 4, receive home-field advantage in their first playoff game. Wild card teams are seeded based on their record and receive the 5th through 7th seeds.
In the first round, also known as the Wild Card Round, the 2 seed faces the 7, the 3 seed faces the 6, and the 4 and 5 seeds square off. The winners then advance to the Division Round, where they face off in the Conference Championship.
The winners of each Conference Championship will then earn their spot in the Super Bowl, with a shot to win the NFL World Championship.
Our printable NFL playoff bracket includes every round of the playoffs with spots for each team and their seeds. You can track each team from the Wild Card round to the Super Bowl. Here’s a quick tutorial on how to use this bracket:
Fill in the Wild Card teams in the Wild Card Weekend slots, along with their associated seeds. Fill in the #1 seed in the first spot of the Divisional Round.
After Wild Card Weekend, advance the winners to the Divisional Round. Remember to reseed, meaning the team with the highest ranking plays the team with the lowest ranking.
The winners of the Divisional Round should advance to the conference championship.
Select the winner of each Conference Championship and advance them to the Super Bowl slots.
Enter your Super Bowl winner in the yellow box.
If you plan to place alternative bets or if you bust your original bracket, print out a new bracket and try again. Good luck!
