The Drake Curse lives, this time eliminating Canada from the World Cup. Drake did his best to reverse the curse, betting on Morocco against his beloved Canucks. However, the attempts to reverse the Drake Curse failed, and Canada was eliminated 3-0 by Morocco.
What Is the Drake Curse?
The Drake Curse is a popular online sports betting theory that athletes supported by Canadian actor and rapper Drake are going to lose. It started in 2013 when Drake’s support of the Kentucky Wildcats’ basketball program preceded a run of bad luck for the team.
Since then, the curse has crossed into multiple other sports. Some of the teams and athletes who have fallen victim to the Drake Curse include Serena Williams (2015), Conor McGregor (2018), and the New England Patriots (2026).
Is the Drake Curse Real?
No, curses are not real. However, there is plenty of anecdotal evidence that Drake’s support can be more of a curse than a blessing.
According to TheDrakeCurse.com, which tracks all of Drake’s publicly available sports bets, Drake is on track to lose over $1 million on sports bets for the third year in a row. He lost over $1.5 million and over $1.7 million in 2024 and 2025, respectively.
Since the tracker started in 2022, Drake has made over 80 wagers. While that number is not high for a four-year span, Drake’s stakes are much larger than those of your average bettor.
Drake has wagered over $37 million on sports bets in that time. However, since he has won just 32 of his bets since 2022, he is currently down over $500,000 from his publicly known sports wagers.
Drake Bets on Morocco to Reverse the Curse
Drake is clearly aware of the alleged curse that has followed his sports fandom for over a decade. In an attempt to reverse the curse. Drake bet $1 on Morocco to beat Canada in their Round of 16 matchup during the 2026 World Cup.
Canada, one of the three co-hosts along with the USA and Mexico, was in just its third World Cup ever. It was also on a historic run, reaching the knockout rounds for the first time.
Morocco Dominates Canada 3-0
Unfortunately for Drake and the rest of Canada’s fan base, reversing the curse did not work. Canada was a massive underdog heading into the match, and Morocco showed why on the pitch.
Morocco controlled possession and scored three times on just five shots. With the loss, Canada became the first of the three co-hosts to be eliminated from the World Cup. Mexico would later join them, losing 3-2 to England.
