The company broke ground on a third casino property on August 27th, this time in South Sioux City. This new property is expected to include 600 slots, over a dozen table games, and live horse racing.
WarHorse Begins Building 3rd Casino in Nebraska
WarHorse Gaming, which is owned by the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska, broke ground on its third casino in the Cornhusker State on Thursday, August 27th. The casino resort has a $100 million price tag and is expected to include:
- 600 slot games
- 16 table games
- Sportsbook
- Live horse racing
- 100-room hotel
- Convention space
- Restaurants
The new Nebraska casino will have outdoor attractions, too, such as a pool complex and concert venue.
Its restaurant, the Nebraska Ale House, will have a second-story piano bar. Also, the sportsbook will feature betting kiosks to help facilitate wagers.
Two-Phase Building Plan
The new WarHorse casino resort in Nebraska will be built in two phases.
In the first phase, WarHorse will focus on building the casino itself. In theory, this will help WarHorse establish a gambling presence in the area. WarHorse is already a dominant presence statewide, with its Omaha ($70.3 million) and Lincoln ($55.7 million) casinos generating the first- and second-highest GGR in Nebraska, respectively.
After the casino is in place, WarHorse can focus on building the other attractions, such as the racetrack, concert venue, and outdoor pool complex.
November Sports Betting Ballot Measure
Its $100 million investment in South Sioux City is not the only way WarHorse is hoping to expand this year. The casino operator also backed a November ballot measure that would allow for mobile sports betting in the Cornhusker State.
Nebraska’s current gambling laws restrict sports betting to in-person wagers at licensed sportsbooks. WarHorse’s properties include brick-and-mortar sportsbooks, but mobile betting would allow them to expand their business.
