wwe backlash odds and predictions

WWE Backlash St. Louis will feature four title matches, including the latest chapter in the era-defining feud between John Cena and Randy Orton. To add to the excitement, it will be the first PLE of their current reigns for every champ putting their belts on the line this weekend.

This guide will break down every match on the WWE Backlash 2025 card. I will analyze the latest odds from top WWE betting sites and give my Backlash St. Louis predictions.

WWE Backlash St. Louis Match Card

The WWE is heading to the Gateway to the West for this year’s Backlash PLE on Saturday, May 10th. See the list below for the full WWE Backlash 2025 match card.

  • Pat McAfee vs. Gunther
  • Dominik Mysterio (c) vs. Penta for the WWE Intercontinental Championship
  • Jacob Fatu (c) vs. LA Knight vs. Damian Priest vs. Drew McIntyre for the WWE US Championship
  • Lyra Valkyria (c) vs. Becky Lynch for the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship
  • John Cena (c) vs. Randy Orton for the Undisputed WWE Championship

Mysterio, Fatu, and Cena all won their belts at WrestleMania 41. Valkyria, on the other hand, became the inaugural WWE Women’s Intercontinental champion in January, but this will be her first PLE title defense.

How to Watch WWE Backlash St. Louis 2025

Backlash is the first PLE after WrestleMania, so it is the perfect time to settle lingering scores from the Show of Shows and set up storylines for the rest of 2025. Here is everything you need to know to enjoy this weekend’s matches.

  • WWE Backlash 2025 date: Saturday, May 10th
  • WWE Backlash 2025 location: Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri
  • WWE Backlash 2025 start time: 7:00 pm Eastern
  • WWE Backlash 2025 channel: Peacock (US) and Netflix (international)

Pat McAfee vs. Gunther

  • Gunther (-1200)
  • Pat McAfee (+750)

The only non-title match on this weekend’s Backlash WWE card is a bout between Pat McAfee and Gunther. McAfee is stepping out from behind the announcer’s table to challenge Gunther after the latter assaulted Michael Cole on the RAW after ‘Mania.

Gunther lost his World Heavyweight Championship to Jey Uso at WrestleMania. He held the belt for 259 days, just a third of the time he held the Intercontinental Championship (666 days).

McAfee, conversely, has not wrestled since WrestleMania 39. He did enter the 2024 Royal Rumble, but the former punter eliminated himself shortly after entering the ring.

This should be a squash match, so it is no surprise that Gunther is a -1200 favorite at BetOnline to win on Saturday. Despite losing at back-to-back WrestleManias, the Ring General has been largely unstoppable since joining the main roster.

Facing off with McAfee puts Gunther on the card without risking another loss to Jey Uso. Even if he is not the champion, the WWE needs to protect Gunther as their top heel on RAW. Gunther will win, and this will likely be the shortest match on this weekend’s card.

  • Prediction: Gunther -1200

Dominik Mysterio (c) vs. Penta

  • Dominik Mysterio (c) (-1000)
  • Penta (+550)

One of the newest matches added to this year’s WWE Backlash St. Louis card is an Intercontinental Championship match between Dominik Mysterio and Penta. Mysterio won the belt by pinning Finn Bálor in a fatal four-way at WrestleMania 41.

Penta and then-champion Bron Breakker were also in the match. Mysterio has defended the belt once already, beating Penta thanks to interference from the former’s faction, The Judgement Day.

This is Mysterio’s first singles title on the main card, so I doubt they will have him drop the belt so quickly. Penta is a rising star in his own right and should have a title run soon. However, his first title run will not start this weekend.

Another factor to consider is that RAW already has three of its five titles held by a babyface champion. Lyra Valkyria is defending her belt this weekend, but Jey Uso and Iyo Sky are not. If Penta and Valkyria both win, then the Red Brand would have four good guys with titles, which is simply too many.

Mysterio will inevitably have assistance from his Judgement Day teammates. Also, with Mysterio winning the belt by pinning Bálor, I doubt he will lose the belt until he faces Finn for it one-on-one.

  • Prediction: Dominik Mysterio -1000

Jacob Fatu (c) vs. LA Knight vs. Damian Priest vs. Drew McIntyre

  • Jacob Fatu (c) (-2500)
  • Drew McIntyre (+500)
  • LA Knight (+700)
  • Damian Priest (+900)

Speaking of champions who were crowned at the Show of Shows, Jacob Fatu (c) will put his United States Championship in a fatal four-way on Saturday. Fatu defeated LA Knight for the belt at WrestleMania. Knight, Drew McIntyre, and Damian Priest will challenge for the US Title at Backlash.

McIntyre and Priest also squared off at ‘Mania, so it is not surprising to see them face each other once again at Backlash. However, their inclusion in this match feels rushed. On the other hand, it allows SmackDown to get as many big-named stars on the card as possible.

Despite being at a disadvantage, Fatu is a -2500 favorite at secure betting sites to retain his belt on Saturday. Fatu is a beast, and I expect him to win this match in a dominant fashion. Taking down former main event champions like Priest and McIntyre in the same match will only solidify Fatu as a rising star on SmackDown.

Breakker was also a dominant mid-card champion, but he lost in his fatal four-way at ‘Mania. The writers could try a similar strategy here, taking the belt off Fatu without him losing. However, I think it is too soon for Fatu to lose the belt and fully expect the Samoan Werewolf to retain in St. Louis.

  • Prediction: Jacob Fatu -2500

Lyra Valkyria (c) vs. Becky Lynch

  • Lyra Valkyria (c) (+250)
  • Becky Lynch (-400)

Becky Lynch made her surprise return at WrestleMania 41 to team with Lyra Valkyria against Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. The Irish duo won the match and claimed the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships in the process.

Unfortunately, Valkyria and Lynch would only hold the belts for a few hours. They lost to Morgan and Rodriguez on the RAW after ‘Mania, dropping the belts less than 24 hours after winning them.

Lynch turned on Valkyria after the loss, setting up their title fight for the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship on Saturday.

The Man getting a title shot shortly after her return is not shocking, but Lynch being the -400 favorite is a surprise. Putting the belt on Lynch could bring legitimacy to the new championship. On the other hand, the WWE needs to build up new stars in the women’s division, including Valkyria.

In their last title match, Valkyria defeated Lynch for the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT: Halloween Havoc 2023. I think Valkyria will beat Lynch again, retaining her belt in her first main card PLE title defense.

  • Prediction: Lyra Valkyria +250

John Cena (c) vs. Randy Orton

  • John Cena (c) (-5000)
  • Randy Orton (+1200)

Stop me if you have heard this before: Randy Orton and John Cena will face off in the main event of this weekend’s PLE. The rivalry between Cena and Orton helped define the PG Era. However, this will be the first time Cena will be the heel instead of the baby face.

Some of their PLE matchups include:

  • SummerSlam 2007
  • Unforgiven 2007
  • No Way Out 2008
  • SummerSlam 2009
  • Hell in a Cell 2009

According to the WWE, Cena is 13-7-1 against Orton in their 21 previous matchups. This is also the first time the two legends have faced off in a singles match since 2017.

Many of their matches have had gold on the line, including four title changes in one-on-one matches. To add to the excitement of this matchup, it is likely the last time we see Cena vs. Orton with gold on the line. Backlash is also taking place in St. Louis, which is Orton’s hometown.

As historic as this rivalry is, the timing of this Cena vs. Orton match could not be worse. Cena (-5000) just won the belt at WrestleMania and will likely rematch Cody Rhodes in the near future. He needs the belt for that match to be as important as possible, so he cannot drop the title to Orton on Saturday.

  • Prediction: John Cena -5000
