Novig is among the latest prediction markets to receive approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). It received the approval on June 16th, and Novig has since launched in 35+ states. The prediction market already has a mobile app and is offering trades on a handful of sports.

What Is Novig?

Novig is a new prediction market that explicitly focuses on sports. It offers fewer markets than other prediction sites, but Novig’s focus on athletic events makes it more familiar to traders who are used to using online sports betting sites.

The company was founded by Jacob Fortinsky and Kelechi Ukah.

As a prediction market, the biggest difference between Novig and a sportsbook is its lack of a vigorish, or vig. Also, the odds are set by other traders instead of by oddsmakers. Presenting its “bets” as derivative markets allows Novig to be regulated by the CFTC instead of state-level gambling commissions.

Instead of taking a vig or winning money from bettors losing wagers, Novig makes money off of the trading activity between users.

Novig Approved by CFTC

The CFTC approved Novig on Tuesday, June 16th, for designated contract markets. Novig was approved a week after new rival ProphetX received similar clearance from the CFTC.

With the CFTC’s approval, Novig only has a short time to establish a foothold in the prediction market space before the fall sports season begins. The short time to prepare for the NFL season is not the only challenge Novig has to overcome to beat out other prediction markets, either.

How Does Novig Compare to Other Prediction Markets?

Check out the table below to see how Novig compares to other prediction markets.

ProphetXYesEvery state20+ sportsYes19
KalshiYesEvery state100+ marketsYes18
PolymarketYesEvery state100+ marketsYes18

Novig is new and only focuses on sports. With that in mind, it is not surprising that Novig has fewer markets available than sites like Kalshi and Polymarket.

However, even ProphetX, which launched in June 2026, has more sports markets currently available. Also, unlike the other sites in the table, Novig is only available in 47 states instead of all 50.

Currently, Novig is not available in Arizona, Nevada, or Michigan. It also faces a slight disadvantage as Novig requires users to be at least 21 years old, while sites like Kalshi only require members to be at least 18.

Novig and other prediction markets are also facing increasing backlash from many states, including Wisconsin, and Native American tribes.
